Raising Kids Who Care
Nov 11, 2025Parenting isn’t just about guiding behaviour — it’s about shaping hearts.
At Good Stuff Parenting, we believe that when children learn to see the world through the eyes of love and empathy, they grow into adults who make a difference.
So how do we help our kids care — not just about themselves or their close circle, but about others, creation, and the bigger picture of God’s world?
Here are three small, powerful ways to start:
1. Model it daily
Kids learn far more from what we do than what we say.
Let them see you offering kindness — to your neighbour, your spouse, your co-worker, or the stranger at the supermarket. Those little acts teach volumes about how to love others well.
“Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
— 1 John 3:18
2. Make space for conversation
Ask open questions at the dinner table:
- “Who did you help today?”
- “What made you feel proud?”
- “Was there someone who needed kindness?”
These moments remind kids that caring isn’t an occasional act — it’s part of who we are as followers of Jesus.
3. Connect care to creation
Go for a walk. Plant something together. Talk about why we pick up rubbish or why we reuse things.
Caring for creation reminds children that love extends beyond people — it’s about honouring the world God gave us.
Growing hearts, not just habits
At every age and stage, kids are learning what love looks like. When we teach them to care — for God, themselves, others, and creation — we give them a foundation that lasts a lifetime.
Good Stuff Parenting is here to help you along that journey — one stage, one conversation, one act of love at a time.
